UNIT 025-58
Some of the metal plates on the unit were still covered in a shiny protective plastic. It stood on standby with its head bent down. Long cables extended from its back and a blue light indicated the power levels as it charged. SiMo unit 025-58. It had been assigned to its team after a major repair session to make sure the equipment would function flawlessly. The unit had been in service several years and was considered one of the most well developed of its batch. Experienced through countless battles in the Elysian security squad. It would now be one of the first units to be tested in the field as a Core Guardian. Its mission would be to protect and assist the team. Providing maps, mission briefings and a secure connection to the headquarters for the Guardians to communicate through.
The blue light stopped blinking and glowed steady now. The unit lifted its head slowly and a warped voice spoke from the speakers by its neck.
“Charging process complete. Power levels: 100%. Ready for service.”
The mechanic ordered to transport the unit to its squad disconnected all the cables and made a final check before closing the back plate.
“SiMo unit 025-58, state your mission please.”
“My mission is to assist Core Guardian squad 01. It is a great honor.”
“Who is your squad leader?”
“CG-01. Skye Autumn.”
The mechanic shrugged and smiled at the unit.
“Well good luck with that. I’ve heard she’s hard to please.”
“I am aware of her reputation. It will not be a problem. I’ve got this.”
The mechanic laughed at the units self confidence. It was always kind of surreal to speak to the SiMo models since they developed personalities through years of learning and observing. This one obviously knew that it had skills enough to do its job properly. Still, it would be interesting to see how machine and human worked together in the field, especially when the humans in this case where a pair of crazy, redheaded sisters.
“Before you go, could you make me a cup of coffee?”
SiMo tilted its head slightly to the side as if judging the mechanic for a moment.
“No. I’m not your assistant and I’ve got a job to do. Now if you’ll excuse me I have places to be and lumes to assassinate.”
The unit simply turned around and walked off. The tall legs made sharp clicking sounds with each step and the mechanic scratched the back of her head as she was left with a pile of cables and cords to sort out. That unit sure had an ego. Perhaps it would be able to handle the Autumn sisters after all.
